Mike’s Platform
A New Approach
Responsive City Government
I believe the very purpose of city government is to effectively and efficiently serve the needs of residents with dignity and respect. An effective City Council must listen to the needs and interests of the residents and serve those residents as best they can. I promise to always listen to my fellow citizens. I promise respect and will give personal attention to their concerns.
My objectives for Responsive City Government include:
- Accountability to the residents of UA
- Fiscal responsibility
- Actively recruit residents to serve on all committees
- Innovative City Planning (city wide WiFi, emergency cell phone call list for emergency situations)
- Truly listen to the residents
Increased Citizen Participation
Our UA residents are the lifeblood of our community. We are blessed with committed and hard-working neighbors and friends that not only care about UA but also are also willing to commit their time and talent to make this the best place to live. Upper Arlington is truly a special place to live and it is due to our residents. We need to encourage all residents to become more involved in their City. We need to make it easier to connect with one another and we need to make it easier to share ideas. Together we can increase our dialogue and find solutions to our problems.
My ideas to Increase Citizen Participation include:
- Expand City web site to include interactive polling and debate
- Solicit community member opinions and views through online forums and discussions
- Report City news on our web site
- Email notification of new issues, meetings and important dates
- Properly and fully utilize all our City resources (schools, library, parks, senior center)
- Truly listen to the residents
Responsible Economic Development
As a small business owner and attorney, I understand the need to promote and encourage successful business development. UA enjoys an enviable location close to OSU, downtown and several major freeways. Since we are a landlocked community, we must remain continually cognizant of our need to balance commercial development with the needs of our residents. I believe we must strive to attract and retain a diverse variety of business development and maintain our commercial tax base, but this must be done within a context of respect for our neighborhoods and residents. We are a city of families and individuals that love UA. The proper balance of economic development and respect for individual rights must always be a priority.
My goals for Responsible Economic Development include:
- Practice fiscal responsibility
- Encourage cooperation among our City, schools and private sector
- Encourage citizen participation and input regarding new projects and development
- Actively pursue redevelopment and revitalization of existing vacant space in UA
- Utilize our resident developers, business professionals and experts to help make UA more attractive for responsible development
- Truly listen to the residents
